See, I’m not the only one who doesn’t get this Twitter thing…

In a story in the NYT today, one of the Internet reporters (who typically finds cool stuff online and then tells readers about it –hello! dream job!) said that she could not get her kids to use Twitter as a way for the family to keep in touch on a daily basis. A Northwestern University professor said that the people using Twitter tend to be older and are using it to help build an identity professionally and personally. Twitter strikes me as the epitome of naval gazing (says the girl writing a blog about stuff she thinks on a minute-to-minute basis) and the crushing intensity with which older techies embrace it seems, well, desperate. It’s like that scene in Juno when her dad uses youth slang. He does it ironically, as a joke. But these older bloggers who shall not be named are so incredibly into it and they’re incredibly sincere about the whole thing. I think Twitter is LAME and the fact that young people are not interested and don’t see the point in it makes me feel justified in my opinion. Cool that I look to today’s youth to justify my opinion that adults, like me, are trying too hard to gain the acceptance of today’s youth by using newfangled technologies, isn’t it? Anyway, the company is still getting NYT coverage and not even in a round-up type story. It’s all about them. I’ll bet Twitter’s subscriber numbers just took a huge leap upward.

In case you haven’t seen Juno, go see it! Here’s the trailer
